And so it begins ......

The 2017 Chile season has started
They look so innocuous right? They're Scotch Bonnets - they'll grab you by the throat and then do their damndest to kill you .......
-
-
They look so cute and good luck with this year's round..
-
I can't wait to try them lol
-
I don't think growing those would be wise with a toddler running around
. I'm sure he'll sneak sampling some of our veggies when it's time!
-
-
decided to join in on the death race
i planted 11 different species for a little experiment. the first few sapling just came out
so proud!

-
i will never understand the desire to suffer lol
-
@mikejoe I have a couple of those ordered as well. The issue I have is that as chiles are so willing to cross-pollinate, I get jalapenos with that distinctive spike, and god damn do they burn !
-
Originally intended to be a thing of beauty rather than a sensory beast, the peppers measure a formidable 2.48 million on the Scoville heat scale, ahead of the 2.2 million achieved by the Carolina Reaper.
-
@haitch jalapenos and cayenne's about as far as i go... i like spice with flavor not just burn
-
The salsa @haitch makes will make your entire digestive system experience different levels of warmth and heat. Especially going in and coming out.
I plan on buying some more from him for the summer time.
-
Ring of fire....
-
@Baron I'll play this every time I have to sit on the porcelain throne after eating the salsa.
Not sure what my wife and kid will think. lol
-
@socalguy at least it ain't a laxative....
-
@mikejoe If used appropriately, Reapers and others peppers at that part of the scale can add great flavor with minimal burn. If used inappropriately, they'll try and kill you .....
-
@socalguy I think I might still have a 1/4 pint of the challenge salsa if you want to take it to the next level ...... But also have the regular Mild and Not Mild - won't be anything new until late summer - some of the peppers take a lot of growing time, and in WI that can be problematic - more than once I've had to pick the whole remaining harvest because there's going to be a frost over night that will kill the plants.. The salsa also tends to mellow over time, the heat gets diffused through the whole mixture rather than just the individual pepper chunks.
-
I have jalepenos, anaheim, sweet banana, salsa, purple bell, green bell, black bell, Santa Fe and hot banana all in full swing. In fact I have some anaheims almost a foot long and ready to make some chille rellanos.
Yea I like peppers. BUT I don't like super hot peppers. I would never grow a carolina reaper. I did grow some habenero one year but they were insanely hot.
